NOLA vs. Charleston

Hey everyone! So I thought it would be interesting to do a little comparison between New Orleans and Charleston since they're so similar. I would like to make it clear that I have only been to New Orleans once while I would consider Charleston my second home, so I  may have a strong bias. Here are my thoughts:

Okay so there are only a few differences in the food. New Orleans food has a bit more spice and they are known for dishes like red beans and rice, jambalaya, and gumbo. Both Charleston and NOLA have lot's of seafood, but NOLA focuses more on craw-fish while Charleston's main seafood is shrimp. One thing I really loved about New Orleans was, of course, the beignets (I have a major sweet tooth). I also really enjoyed stopping by Brennan's for lunch! It is so pretty and the food is great!

One thing that really differs between Charleston and NOLA is the crowd of people. The majority of people who visit New Orleans are there to party on Bourbon Street and NOLA lacks the strict open container laws that Charleston has. With that being said, New Orleans can get a little crazy especially the French the Quarter. Both Charleston and New Orleans are rich in history and beautiful architecture, so finding a place to take a picture isn't difficult. Something I really enjoyed about New Orleans was hearing people play jazz music on the street! It was so cool! One thing that Charleston has though, is easy access to the beach.

(Charleston: House on Rainbow Row)

(New Orleans: Garden District)

(New Orleans: Royal Street)

Both Charleston and New Orleans have tons of local shops. Charleston is known for it's Historic City Market and New Orleans has a similar French Market. As far as chain stores go, Charleston of course has King Street. New Orleans has a mall (Shops at Canal Place) which does have a few good stores, but it doesn't really come close to King Street.

The Verdict: Charleston all the way!!!

Thanks for reading! Let me know your thoughts on Charleston or New Orleans!
